Piercing Aftercare
Facial Piercing Aftercare
How your piercing heals is up to you!!
Healing Time:
Ear cartilage(3-4 months)
Ear lobes(2months)
Eyebrow(2 months)
nostril(2 months)
Septum(2 months)
Necessary Supplies:
Non-iodized Sea Salt and liquid soap, no perfume or coloring, like free and clear or Dr. Bronner’s and Q-tips. Soak your piercing twice a day with a clean cup filled with warm water and 1/4 teaspoon of salt measured carefully. Leave your jewelry in while you are soaking, do not remove your jewelry until it is healed or you may not be able to get it back in. Soak for 5 to 10 minutes and then wash with a speck of soap. Some piercings require a Q-tip to scrub off the crusty material. Then rinse the piercing with lots of water. You could soak with the salt water and then do your shower and last wash your piercing to get out any shampoo or conditioners. Don’t touch your piercing with bath towels as they have bacteria. Air dry or blot with a clean paper towel. Change your sheets and pillow case often.
More aftercare:
Scrub your hands with cleanser before ANY contact with your piercing (including jewelry). DO NOT MOVE THE JEWELRY until after you’ve thoroughly cleaned it and the exit holes of the piercing. Infection or irritation of new piercings generally occurs because crusty material (usually lymph and similar body fluids) was forced into the piercing. Bodily
fluids are sticky and attract airborne or other bacteria that can infect your new piercing.
DO NOT use peroxide or rubbing alcohol to clean your piercing. Either substance will slow the healing process.
Try to keep hair out of your piercing (especially ears) during the healing process as hair is notorious for getting dirt and bacteria into piercings.
Avoid oral contact or rough play with the new piercing, especially during the healing period.
Any other common sense things you can do to keep your piercing clean will also be helpful. Staying out of pools, hot tubs, hot springs, bath tubs, etc.will also help speed the healing process by keeping bacteria out of your piercing. If you are going to be doing something or going somewhere, that you know is likely to contaminate your piercing, please be smart and clean it before and after that activity.
IF YOU HAVE SCREW ON BALLS BE SURE TO CHECK THEM AFTER
CLEANING.. RIGHT TO TIGHTEN.

Hi I am getting my tongue pierced next month. I know you guys numb the tongue. Do you numb the nose? Belly botton too?
Yes, we use numb all our piercings and our clients say it helps!
hi i got a skin diver put in last month and it is healing fine, however it never occured to me that the diamond might fall out of the jewlery. since this is a perminent thing that i would hate to have to get cut out, is there anything that can be done to prevent this?
hi again i also was wondering if i got a lip piercing over to the side (like a snake bite) would it damage my gums really bad. I had my lebret pierced and i wore it for 2 years and it wore my gums and teeth down so now i have to get them pulled out and get false teeth in the front. I am pretty tramatized from it but i miss my piercing so i am trying to find other places on the lip that would have less of an impact on my gums and teeth. Would it help if I wore a ring instead of a stud?
Please give us a call at (503) 669-4191. Depending on the location a ring may be better. You’re also welcome to come by the shop and have us take a look at your lip. Of course, with any lip piercing you always want to keep an eye on any possible gum damage. It may have just been the specific jewelry that you were using. We often use push-pins which have a dental material on the back that tends to be easier on the gums.
It just depends on how the diamond is being held in. Hopefully the prongs are sturdy and will hold the jewel in but if it is just glued in then it is more likely to fall out. Come by the shop and have us take a look!
Hello, as you may possibly know I just got my belly button pierced. I was just wondering how long you must wait to switch it out with different jewelry. It was never clarified completely, but i’ve heard everything from 6 weeks to 8 months! I’m assuming you don’t have to wait the full healing time? Just concerned on keeping my piercing healthy!:) So if you could clarify that for me it would be great!
Thank you*

6-9 months is the recommended time to wait before changing your jewelry but you’re welcome to come into the shop and have us take a look – maybe sooner! http://troutdaletattoo.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/after-care-nipple-navel.jpg
